Transport to medical aid:

Northern Lights College must separate students not considered workers under the act and all others considered workers under the act. The following procedures will be followed for each:

Workers:

  • If the patient requires care or treatment beyond the OFAA’s capability and/or scope of training the worker will be transported to medical aid without cost to the worker.
  • The worker will be transported to the nearest facility acceptable to the WorkSafeBC OSHR.
  • The first aid attendant will adhere to the written procedures for the transport of an injured worker for the specific NLC worksite.
  • The OFAA will determine the mode of transport and will not be overruled by anyone other than the patient as per the OSHR.

Students not considered workers:

  • If the patient requires care or treatment beyond the OFAA’s capability and/or scope of training the worker will be transported to medical aid with cost transferred to the student.
  • The first aid attendant will adhere to the same written procedures for the transport of an injured worker for the specific NLC worksite and apply them to the student.
  • If the student declines the transport the OFAA will document and forward a copy of the documentation to the HSEA.
  • The only acceptable methods for transporting a student to medical aid are taxi, BC Ambulance or an immediate family member.
