Shelley Nickel, Director (M.Ed.)
Shelley has been working with international students since 1989, first as the Homestay Coordinator, then as a Student Advisor and since 1996, she has been the Director of International Education. Shelley is amazed at how fast the time has gone by.
“Working with international students is fun and having the opportunity to meet students from all around the world is a wonderful experience. It is interesting that the students come to Northern Lights College to learn but, in turn, they too teach us. We love learning about their cultures and way of thinking.”
Michael Temple, Instructor (M.Ed., BA (Hons), TESL Certificate)
Michael has been teaching EFL/ESL since 1991. He taught for eight years in Taiwan before returning to his hometown of Fort St. John to continue his career in the International Education Department of Northern Lights College.
Michael speaks Mandarin Chinese, and enjoys learning about other languages and cultures. He also likes to promote humour in his classes when possible.
Pamela den Ouden, Instructor BA (Eng.), MA, TESL Certificate
Pamela has worked at Northern Lights College since 1993. Besides teaching English as a Second Language, she has taught Women’s Studies and many English writing and literature courses in the university transfer program.
Pamela has an Interdisciplinary (English and History) Master’s degree from the University of Northern British Columbia and a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Saskatchewan. She enjoys reading and is very interested in astronomy. On clear nights, she heads out with binoculars and telescope to view the wonders of the northern sky.
“I make my classes interactive, so students can experience the language in as many ways as possible. Having fun is also an important part of learning.”
