The significance of the aircraft donation will have a huge impact on available equipment for AME students.
“This machine will relieve some of the scheduling time pressures of too many students trying to do the same project on one aircraft,” said AME Chair Jim Smith. “This aircraft has a better, more versatile type of engine for the students to learn on.”
The aircraft carries two pilots and four to five passengers. It originally flew in from Kenn Borek Air’s base in Calgary.
“We’re very thankful for donations like these,” said Dean of Trades and Apprenticeships Mark Heartt. “It’s an honour for industry to be coming back to us and giving us these types of upgrades. It really shows they see the potential our students have to offer.”
The Borek family, who are local to Dawson Creek, were on-hand for the donation event and were pleased that the aircraft will give students a hands-on learning opportunity.
“The Borek family has been a major part of our community for many years,” said Heartt. “They have built an impressive corporation and provide services all over the world.”
Later in the evening at the NLC Foundation’s annual donor recognition event the crowd applauded as Rosella Borek was presented with a huge floral bouquet.
“I want to thank Rosella Borek most of all,” said Heartt. “I understand that she was the person that said this aircraft had to come to our AME program here in Dawson Creek.”
