Two lectures, held in late October in the recently renovated atrium of the Fort St. John Campus, were attended by approximately 100 people.
Currently a doctoral student in the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at Simon Fraser University (SFU), speaker Robert Bittner made the trip to Fort St. John to present on identity, and other issues and topics affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) youth and adults.
Bittner has a Bachelor’s degree in English from SFU and a Master’s in Children’s Literature with a focus on queer sexualities, religion, and literature for young people from the University of British Columbia.
Bittner had the undivided attention of UNBC and NLC social work students, as well as the public as he led them through his presentation that also provided a historical overview of LGBTQ cinematic themes over the past several decades.
“It was great meeting Rob and I appreciate his hard work and joining us for this event,” said Connie Kaweesi, Social Services Worker Diploma instructor. “We are working towards getting more speakers to visit the College in the near future on a variety of interesting topics.”
