Northern Lights College adopts a Family for Christmas

On , In College News

About 10 or so years ago, Susan Soutar had the idea to begin the silent auction. It was a way to support a program that began long before — the adoption of a family in need at Christmas.
Students and staff are thankful to each other and the community at large for their support. From the donation of items for auction, to the bidding and eventual winning/purchase of said items, a fair amount of effort is needed each year to pull this project off!
Staff and students did not just purchase or find items for the auction. Some of the highlights of the auction included the beautiful fire pit created by the welding students, the very cool 1948 flathead engine coffee table created by the mechanical students, the stunning artworks created and donated by Jessie Drew and Christine Cork… we even had a student make a chickadee house and donate that! Other items that had some exciting bidding wars happening were the log reindeer, the little I HEART NLC snowman made by the Hommy family and the little tumbling snowman statue…it was really neat to see people getting excited over their
All that effort and time lead to raising an overall total of $2,604.00 – WOW!!
We not only managed to spoil our adopted family (chosen by the Salvation Army) but we also gave a donation to Network Ministries. On the 22nd, staff took the gifts, food and holiday supplies to the family. There was even a Christmas tree!
Way to go NLC Dawson Creek! We’re feeling the love!
