Students see big benefits from $100,000 in TransCanada bursaries

On , In College News

“The Workforce Training bursaries have filled a real need in our community,” said Donna Kane, Executive Director of the Northern Lights College Foundation. “They are one of the first awards available to students enrolling in Workforce training courses. In more than a few cases, a single course has made the difference to a community member’s ability to find employment.”

The $100,000 donation from TransCanada greatly assisted learners both in the Trades and Apprenticeships and Workforce Training Departments at the College.

TransCanada’s Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project and Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project contributed to the investment.

“We recognize the positive impact that the bursaries can have on the students, and we know that investing in skills development is important to northern British Columbians,” said Rick Gateman, Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project President. “These programs help residents access practical training that prepares them to participate in our pipeline projects and other development projects in northern B.C.”

“The response to this award fund has been so great for Workforce Training learners taking short courses such as First Aid and Safety training,” said Kane. “And the Trades bursaries have helped with the financial challenges that come with being a student, and have played a large part in ensuring the success of current students.
