BC Centre of Training Excellence in Oil & Gas

This industry training centre provides hands-on learning opportunities through the Simulated Well Site Training facility, along with a full-sized drilling rig donated by Nabors Canada. The facility is based at the $12 million Jim Kassen Industry Training Centre. It is designed to address the challenges of skills training and education in the oil and gas industry on a provincial scale.

This training centre prepares students to enter the oil and gas industry and support the growth of BC’s economy.

Centre for Clean Energy Technologies

Energy House is a multi-use facility that produces all its energy needs through solar panels, biomass, and geoexchange systems. NLC offers a Wind Turbine Maintenance Technician program taught in Energy House. Students learn the theory supporting wind turbines and the practical maintenance procedures required to maintain turbine output.

Features

These are some of the many features and construction processes that contributed to Energy House’s LEED® Platinum certification by the Canada Green Building Council.

  • Half of the site area was restored with native or adaptive vegetation
  • Wastewater generated by the building has been reduced by 92%
  • No CFCs or HCFCs were used in the building
  • Recyclables are collected and stored
  • 91% of construction waste was diverted from landfill
  • 12.5% of materials were manufactured and extracted regionally

Aircraft Maintenance Centre

This training facility is home to NLC’s Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) program. It attracts students from around the world for its helicopter type training courses. The AME program is a two-year Transport Canada accredited program that is also recognized by the Canadian Armed Forces. This provides a fast track for students who wish to pursue military careers.
