ESTH 190 - Unit Nine: Esthetics - Practical Application of Skills and Practicum

This course will provide students with the opportunity to review the skills and procedures learned throughout the Esthetics and Nail Care Technology program. It will include a small, unpaid practicum where students will apply theoretical knowledge by engaging in supervised practice work in industry. (If placement with employers cannot be offered, students will be expected to work in the lab.) The course will also include theory review and preparation for industry standard (certification/licensing) exam(s).


Hours: 180 (Lecture Hours: 10.25; Laboratory Hours: 17)

Preparation for Industry Standard Exams


Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Describe and perform manicure and pedicure techniques and procedures
- Describe and perform nail care, treatments, and artificial nail procedures
- Describe and perform hair removal and tinting techniques and procedures
- Describe and perform various massage techniques and procedures
- Describe and incorporate aromatherapy into services
- Describe and perform body treatments and wraps
- Describe and perform facials and facial treatment techniques and procedures
- Describe and identify contraindications of esthetic and nail care procedures

- Learners must demonstrate competencies in their skills to Industry Standards.


Grading System: Percentage


Passing Grade: 70%


Percentage of Individual Work:  100
