Calendar Description:
Students will study the basics, along with some advances functions, of an electronic spreadsheet program. The student will also learn basic data manipulation using a database management program on a personal computer. Computer applications will be specifically targeted to managing land administration data and inventory for resource based industries.

Course Content:
1. Correctly use the basic functions of an electronic spreadsheet program
- format cells to general, fixed, commas, currency, and percent formats
- copying and moving data from one location to another
- performing functions such as: sum, average, count, maximum, minimum, if
- saving and retrieving files
- absolute and relative addressing
- editing cells
- basic printing options
- identifying data types
- printing workbooks
- difference between worksheets and workbooks
- exporting and Excel worksheet
- importing Excel spreadsheets to another program
- e-mailing an Excel file
- basic database functions
- simple macro
- basic graphing

2. Design, edit, view, and print reports from a database program
- basic database management concepts
- designing a relational database
- design and enter data into tables
- design and run queries
- design and enter data in forms
- design and print reports
- create a switchboard
- create simple macros
- merge information from a database to a word processor
- import and export data

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. correctly use the basic functions of an electronic spreadsheet program
2. design, edit, view, and print reports from a database program
