WFTR314 - Low Energy for Instrument Personnel

The Group 4, Low Energy Systems (LO) is an Electrical Safety Branch qualification which will be required by any person working on electrical equipment after June 30, 2004, if they are not already certified electricians. This course is designed to prepare industrial instrumentation personnel or electronics technicians to challenge the LO examination (not included in this course). Prerequisites: Min. 1 year relevant training and experience or a valid BCTQ in the activity for which the certificate is intended. Please contact the Continuing Education office for a list of publications required for this course.

It is essential that all participants are on the subscription list of Electrical Safety Publications through Crown Publications.
Students must provide acceptable proof of relevant training and work experience as follows:
A minimum of one year acceptable relevant training and electrical work experience. Employer letter signed by the FSR named on the contractors license. Where a FSR cannot verify experience, an original notarized Statement or statutory declaration is required.

Learning Outcomes:
This compulsory course is designed to prepare the applicant to write the 2-hour Provincial Exam
Within the scope of this certificate an individual may:
- Act as a Field Representative
- Perform electrical work on electrical equipment as follows:
All wiring is restricted to circuits with the power supply limited in accordance with the requirements for Class 2 circuits supplied from electrical equipment restricted to a maximum output rating of 100 volt amperes, except in order to provide power to the noted electrical equipment, this scope containing over-current devices or extension of existing branch circuit wiring, rated at 15 amp. 120 volt, to an outlet installed specifically for electrical equipment restricted to a maximum output rating of 100 volt amperes. Electrical work on Fire Alarms, Security Alarm Systems or Hazardous Locations is excluded.


Grading System: Other


Passing Grade: This course is to prepare students to write their Provincial exam.  there is no grade for this course, it is just an overview prep course.
