CPST 020

This course will introduce the student to basic skills required for using a computer; prepare, save & retrieve word processing documents; find and print information from the Internet, and how to use simple information systems.

Prerequisites: 
Basic reading and writing skills

Learning Outcomes:

The student will be able to perform:
  • Basic start-up and shutdown procedures on a computer
  • Basic file procedures using a graphical user interface
  • Basic word processing procedures needed to create and edit a simple document
  • Achieve a typing speed of 10 wpm, or alternatively a speed equal to their handwriting speed
  • Use simple information systems to find information
  • Use a printer
Performance tasks:
The student will be required to perform all tasks in an acceptable manner in a practical demonstration.

Grading System:  Letters

Passing Grade:  D

Percentage of Individual Work:  100
