Calendar Description:
This course will continue to explore relief printing, through pattern design and wood block and embossment. Serigraph (silkscreen printing) and monoprinting will also be introduced. Focus will be given to pattern design to link the various approaches and techniques together. Focus will be given to an open and expressive use of techniques.

Serigraphy (Silk Screen)

A. Screen stretching
B. Terminology
C. Ink preparation
D. Registration.
E. Stencil methods: Printed, Cut, Photo
F. Studio, Tool Maintenance and Safety
G. Production of Screen Prints

Relief Printing

A. Pattern Design
B. Preparing and cutting the Wood Block
C. Wood block printing - cutting an image through reduction
D. Embossment
E. Collagraph


Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the following:

-Identify, explain and produce prints utilizing the following techniques:
a) Monoprinting
b) Serigraphy
c) Woodblock printing

-Identify and explain the differences between woodblock, engraving and serigraph techniques
-Prepare ink, paper and stencils
-Describe the unique aesthetic qualities and philosophies that accompany printmaking
-Identify, explain and demonstrate the safe use and maintenance of printmaking tools
-Participate in individual and group critiques

Completion of a portfolio of work. Students will be expected to present their work in a professional manner
