This course is part of a competency based, seven month Welding Level C program. Students will describe and identify the application of both the Air Carbon Arc Cutting Equipment and Plasma Arc Cutting Equipment.

Describe the Air Carbon Arc Cutting Process:
- Describe the Air Carbon Arc cutting process and the components of a basic Air Carbon Arc system
- Describe the safety concerns of Air Carbon Arc cutting
- Identify the application and describe the advantages of Air Carbon cutting
Describe Air Carbon Arc Cutting Equipment:
- Describe the welding power source for AAC
- Identify AAC electrodes and their uses
- Describe the air supply for AAC and describe the AAC electrode holder
Gouge Using the Air Carbon Arc Cutting Process:
- Describe the main factors of AAC and the correct operating procedure
- Describe the correct technique for cutting, gouging, and bevelling
- Demonstrate technique for gouging and beveling joints in mild steel
- Demonstrate technique for gouging joints in cast iron
- Demonstrate technique for removing weld faults using AAC
Describe the Plasma Arc Cutting Process:
- Describe the Plasma Arc Cutting process
- Identify the principles of Plasma Arc Cutting
- Describe the components of a basic Plasma Arc system and safe work practices for Plasma Arc Cutting
- Identify the application and advantages of Plasma Arc Cutting
Describe Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC) Equipment:
- Describe the power sources for PAC
- Describe the control unit
- Identify plasma gases and their functions
- Identify secondary gases and their functions
- Describe basic components of PAC torches
- Identify PAC torch types
- Demonstrate assembly of PAC equipment
- Perform SQ cuts using PAC to specifications
- Perform bevel cuts using PAC to specifications
- Perform circular cuts using PAC to specifications

Students are required to supply the following tools:

- Metal tool pail (max 10" diameter) or small tool box with tote tray
- Clear CSA approved safety glasses
- High top steel-toe CSA approved leather work boots
- Padlock for locker
- 12' metric/imperial tap measure
- Arc welding helmet
- 2 pair welder's gloves
- One-piece oxy-acetylene goggles
- Tri-flint spark lighter
- Tip cleaners
- Small metal protractor
- Welder's leather jacket or cape sleeves
- 100% cotton overalls (bib or full)
- #10R straight jaw vice grip
- 10" crescent wrench
- 1 1/2 lb 24oz fibreglass handle ball peen hammer
- 12" STT metric/imperial combination square
- Centre punch
- 10" slip joint pliers
- 1/2 RD Pipeliner NCH 14" file with handle
- 45/90 degree magnet
