Calendar Description:
This course covers the essential skills of patient care, and includes the Primary Survey, Airway Management, Breathing Management, Circulation Management (shock, bleeding, & CPR A), Minor Wound Management and Medical emergencies, plus Injuries due to heat and cold, Poisons, Airway Emergencies, Breathing & Circulation Emergencies, First Aid for Respiratory & Cardiac Arrest, Head & Spine Injuries, Bone, Muscle & Joint Injuries, as well as moving and transporting a patient. Participants must be at least 16 years of age; 16-18 year olds require parent's or guardian's consent.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will understand:
Knowledge:
- Essential skills of patient care
- To assess the ABCs (airway, breathing, circulation)
- To manage minor wounds, injuries due to heat and cold, poisons, ABC Emergencies, Cardiac Arrest, 2 Rescuer CPR method, Head and Spine injuries, Bone, Muscle and Joint injuries
Attitudes:
- Ability to remain calm and confident, and assist in an emergency first aid situation
Skills:
- Demonstrate ability to check airway, assess breathing, and offer assistance to deal with shock, bleeding and CPR
- To manage minor wounds and medical emergencies
- To assist a person in cardiac arrest
- To assist a person who has had an injury to the head, spine, bone, muscle or joint
- To prepare an injured person for moving and transporting
Technologies:
- Know how to use an AED, blood pressure monitor, neck collar, and spine board
