WFTR 119 - Traffic Control

Includes theory and extensive practical hands-on training. Covered will be WCB's safety regulations, personal safety and equipment, traffic control devices, construction equipment, traffic control zones/sites, site set-up, visual/audible/radio signaling, control of equipment and workers, etc. License is valid for 3 years.

 

Hours: 20 (Lecture Hours: 7; Field Experience Hours: 13)

Prerequisites:

Class 5 Driver's License is recommended but not mandatory. Recommended age is 16 years old.

Theory
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Describe Regulations
    WCB Regulations
    Department of Highways Regulations
    Motor Vehicle Regulations
- Identify Equipment
- Assemble and Disassemble a Traffic Control Zone
- Describe Communication Procedures
- Control Traffic
Field Experience:
- Assemble and Disassemble a Traffic Control Zone
- Control Traffic
- Use of Handheld Radios
Outdoor on the Road Training dealing with:
- Heavier Traffic
- High Volumes of Traffic
- Setting up Traffic Control Devices
- Controlling all Types of Traffic
- Taking Down all Traffic Control Devices

- Cooperating with Construction Equipment and Work Crews

 

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course students will be able to legally perform traffic control duties in a proper, safe and effective manner in BC, Alberta and the Yukon. License is valid for 3 years.

 

Grading System: Pass/Fail

 

Passing Grade: 80% (written); Pass (practical)

 

Percentage of Individual Work: 100
