WFTR 155 - S-100 Fire Suppression

Calendar Description:
This course is needed for forestry harvesting crews holding licenses and some other crews working within 1 km of a Forest or Woodland. (Section 91 (1) (ii) of the Forest Practices Code Act). S100 Fire Suppression is required by anyone that is "the holder of a woodland license to cut, or timber sale, or is working for anyone that is the holder of a woodland license to cut, or timber sale license." One person on every individual crew is required to have this training. A person requires this course to attain a forest fire fighting job with the Ministry of Forests. Course is 7-12 hours (length of course is related to the previous experience of the students) and can be done in one long day or 1 1/2 days. It includes a field demonstration on how to set up a fire pump and construct hand fire guards. Student is required to bring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
-Access, report, and take action on any forest fire in an effective and safe manner
-Reduce loss to forests, life, and property during a forest fire
-Meet all Government regulations
-Reduce incidents of liability to any industrial operation by achieving best management practices and due diligence
-Better understand the dynamics of fire behaviour as an important role in the ecosystem
