This course of study is designed to increase the knowledge and safety awareness of drivers who are responsible for towing a variety of trailers including utility and tandem units. This course will benefit experienced drivers as well as drivers who have limited experience in trailer towing and maneuvering. Topics include checking that the trailer and vehicle are a legal combination, hitching and unhitching, preparing for a journey, securing a load considering weight distribution, conducting a mid-journey safety check optimizing safe driving techniques and how to reverse a trailer. This course is available for on-site delivery. Certification has no expiry date.

-Demo of proper hooking and unhooking
-Safe loading and tie down - demo and student practice
-Backing - demo and student practice
Upon successful completion of this course of study, participants will be able to:
- safely load a trailer considering weight distribution
- hitch and unhitch trailer units
- park and secure the unit
- back the trailer unit into a prescribed location
- respond appropriately to highway maneuvers and emergency situations
Field Experience: 100 %
Students must be able to properly and safely hook, unhook, load, tie down a load, and back up the trailer unit.
