Description:
The Oil and Gas Field Operations program was developed at the request of local industry to address present and projected shortages of skilled workers in this field. The 18 week program is based on curriculum from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) as well as locally initiated curriculum as suggested by the Program Steering Committee.
The goal of the program is to train professional and technically knowledgeable individuals for the oil and gas industry. Oil and Gas Production Operators are in high demand in the oil and gas industry, and are considered essential personnel to keep the industry running.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will enter a career that is both challenging and rewarding, and will be immediately employable.

Admission Requirements:
Applicants will fit one of three specific groups:
- High school dual credit students - Grade 10 level completion that includes:
Grade 10 English, or Career and College Preparation English 030 Intermediate English, with 67% (C+) or higher
Grade 10 Math (Apprenticeship and Workplace Math), or Career and College Preparation (CCP) Math 030 Intermediate Mathematics, with 67% (C+) or higher
- Adults – Submission of a high school transcript indicating Grade 10 level completion that includes:
Grade 10 English, or Career and College Preparation English 030 Intermediate English, with 67% (C+) or higher
Grade 10 Math (Applications or Principles), or Career and College Preparation Math 030 Intermediate Mathematics, with 67% (C+) or higher
- Adults or high school dual credit students – Completion of assessment:
An applicant who does not have the above academic background is required to write an assessment in Reading Comprehension, Number Operations, Problem Solving, and Mechanical Reasoning. A minimum Grade Equivalent (GE) score of 10.0 or higher is required for Reading Comprehension, Number Operations, and Problem Solving; and above average score (51/70; 6th Stanine) required for Mechanical Reasoning. Based on the results of the assessment, applicants may be required to participate in an assessment interview to determine admissibility. Interview may be conducted via teleconference if necessary.

Certification - Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a Northern Lights College/Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Certificate in Oil and Gas Field Operations.
As well, students will receive accreditation for safety courses taken.

Additional Requirements and Supplies:
- Purchase of textbooks.
- Northern Lights College will supply one of the following to each learner: hard hat, set of earplugs, pair of gloves, safety glasses, and coveralls.
- Personal Protective Equipment required by the learner, including, but not limited to: steel-toed boots and winter wear (if required).
- Application Fee and Trades Assessment Fee (if applicable).

- Once accepted, students are required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable, non-deferrable deposit to hold a seat in the program.
- Students are required to sign and adhere to the Trades & Apprenticeship Safety and Attendance Policy.

Application Deadline: All completed applications must be received one month prior to start of the program. Completed applications received after this date will be reviewed based on seat availability.
Safety Courses: Students are required to take the following ten safety courses totalling 67 hours. These courses are scheduled during class time throughout the four modules. If a student already possesses a valid ticket in any of these courses, and can provide proof of its validity through to the program's end date, they will not be required to enroll in that particular course. Should this occur, the cost of the course(s) will be reimbursed from their overall tuition.
