Description:
The University Arts and Sciences program at Northern Lights College serves individuals and communities by providing university-level learning opportunities that reflect the intellectual and creative modes of inquiry practised in the arts and sciences. A wide variety of first- and second-year courses enable learners to pursue numerous credential and career options, and to engage in personal enrichment.
An Elementary Education Certificate is awarded to students who complete one year of planned first and second-year courses at Northern Lights College. The certificate is intended to prepare students for continued studies in NLC's Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education (AHCOTE) program and/or the pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in Education.
Please note that the ahcote program is currently under review. Northern Lights College and its AHCOTE partners are using the 2010-2011 academic year as a planning period, to ensure the ongoing viability and relevance of the AHCOTE program. accordingly, there will not be a new intake of non-degree-holding students in September 2010. The intention is to resume full operation of the AHCOTE program in September 2011 and for the program to be based in Fort st. John. Prospective AHCOTE students should also be advised that the anticipated September 2011 intake is subject to successful completion of the planning process.
