The Electrician Level One course provides students the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills acquired either through foundation trades training or from on the job experience. The course introduces students to the fundamentals of basic electricity as set forth by the Industry Training Authority (ITA).

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, and the 1500 first year workplace hours, the apprentice should be able to work in this field safely, and perform correct procedures typical of a first year apprentice:
  • Apply concepts of work, power and energy, principals of electricity, and concepts of electric circuits
  • Explain machine applications, electrical circuit components, and applications of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
  • Describe safe work practices
  • Describe principals of electromagnetism, residential wiring practices, and features of junction transistors
  • Analyze series circuits, parallel circuits, combination circuits, voltage divider circuits, bridge circuits, and three-wire (Edison) circuits
  • Demonstrate the use of meters for voltage measurements, current measurements, resistance measurements, energy measurements, and power
  • Read and interpret working drawings, sketches, and electrical drawings
  • Demonstrate the ability to connect and test manual motor starters, magnetic motor starters, and semiconductor diodes
  • Apply appropriate rules of the CEC to residential type wiring installations
