Through the Advanced Education Media Acquisitions Centre (AEMAC) at Langara College, Northern Lights is participating in a province-wide license permitting us to rent videos from video stores and show them in the classroom. Without the license, rented videos are for home use only. As the opening screens on most of them inform us, there are stiff penalties for other uses. Our license has been renewed for the year 2009-2010.
This license allows the use of films distributed by Audio-Cine and Criterion, distributors who represent approximately 80% of the feature film market available at local video stores. It also covers feature films that we might borrow from other library collections. Not all feature films are covered - if in doubt, you can reach the distributors at:
Audio-Cine: http://www.acf-film.com
1-800-289-8887
Criterion: http://www.criterionco.com
1-800-6630991
It is the responsibility of the instructor to obtain the videos from the stores and return them. Costs are the responsibility of the individual faculty members or their departments.
Films that are not available from video stores may be rented directly from the distributors. Please contact the distributors directly to make such arrangements.
We are not required to keep or report statistics on our use of these films but, from time to time, we may poll Northern Lights College faculty when the license is due for renewal.
