    Prerequisites: Must be 19 years of age

    Security Professionals working in the province of British Columbia are required to complete mandatory training prior to being eligible for provincial licensing. Mandatory BST training is 40 hours in length, and focuses on the following content: Professionalism & Ethics, Legal Studies, Report Writing, and Personal Safety.

    Once you have successfully passed the Basic Security Training (BST) course and received your certificate, you will need to apply for your Security Worker License. Licensing is done through the Ministry of Justice, Security Programs Division.  The Justice Institute of British Columbia is only responsible for your certification.

    No security checks are required to take the BST certification.  However, a criminal record check is required for Security Worker licensing as part of the application process.
