    Certification: JIBC

    Prerequisites: Must be 19 years of age

    Security Professionals working in the province of British Columbia are required to complete mandatory training prior to being eligible for provincial licensing. Mandatory BST training is 40 hours in length, and focuses on the following content: Professionalism & Ethics, Legal Studies, Report Writing, and Personal Safety.

    Once you have successfully passed the Basic Security Training (BST) course and received your certificate, you will need to apply for your Security Worker License. Licensing is done through the Ministry of Justice, Security Programs Division. The Justice Institute of British Columbia is only responsible for your certification.

    No security checks are required to take the BST certification. However, a criminal record check is required for Security Worker licensing as part of the application process. For further information in regards to requirements for licensing, please contact Security Programs Division - Ministry of Justice.

    3-Day course, May 12 - 14 @ 8:30am - 4:30pm each day

    Cost: $730.00    ($524 course costs, $90 exam fees, $116 books)

    Certificate: Issued by Ministry of Environment, Certificate expiry depends on the percentage mark that each student obtains.  60-74% = Valid for 1 Year, 75-100% = Valid for 5 Years.

    There are four different categories of certificates that Northern Lights College offers. When you register for the course, you must let us know which certificate you wish to take.

    Agricultural General: Manage pests associated with agricultural production of field, orchard, nursery and greenhouse crops, livestock and poultry. This category is for custom applicators, private growers or farm workers. A separate category is available for application of strychnine bait used to control gopher populations.

    Forestry: Manage weeds, insects and diseases in forestry production, including weed control on forest rangeland. Subcategories are available for non-broadcast applications, seed cone orchards and seedling nurseries.

    Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed: Manage weeds on industrial land, roads, power lines, railways and pipeline right-of-ways including control of noxious weeds on private or public land. 

    Landscape General: Manage insects, diseases and weeds of gardens, ornamental plantings and turf.

    Certification and training is required for anyone who purchases or supplies restricted class pesticides, assists in the application, transportation, storage, and security of pesticides, applies and dispenses pesticides for authorized holders and vendors.
