Self-Directed Microsoft Office Courses

How does your self-directed course work?

The program “Jasperactive” is an online learning platform where all your learning takes place. You will be reading information on a computer screen, following computer prompts, as well as completing practice activities. You will be the person that is responsible for reading and understanding the information as well as helping trouble shoot your questions, using the online tools and materials provided with the class.

To be successful and enjoy taking this type of class, it is important that you have good trouble shooting or problems solving skills as it pertains to computer use.

The great news is that we have designed this course with the added bonus of a weekly a two-hour conference call, just in case you need a little help from a qualified Microsoft office instructor. We want you to be success and these conference calls can be helpful if you get stuck once in a while, but the overall expectation is that you work through the course with little to no instructional help other than what is found in the online learning tool.

All the little details you need to know about taking a self-directed course.

Course cost: $195
Optional Certification exam cost: $109

  • On average, it takes approximately 40 hours to complete these courses. Depending on your level of foundation knowledge, it may take more or less time to complete.

  • This path is perfect if you have other commitments and can only set aside a small portion of time each day or week.

  • You set your schedule! Early morning, late nights, it is totally up to you!

  • Each course is individually personalized based on your benchmark and will focus on your learning needs, not on what you already know!

  • You will be linked to a qualified instructor that will be available Monday and Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm to help you along the way if needed.

  • Once registered, you will receive an email containing log in information, Office 365 download information, and how to link to your instructor in Jasperactive.

  • Once you are finished your course and complete the validation test, you will be marked as complete. If you do not complete the validation exam, you will be marked as incomplete.

  • If you choose to take the corresponding certification exam, it would have to be completed at one of the following Northern Lights College Campuses.

    • Chetwynd

    • Dawson Creek

    • Fort Nelson

    • Fort St. John

    • Tumbler Ridge

You may take more than one course and exam during the 4 month term as long as you register before the last day to register for the term.
