Holly SquiresDAWSON CREEK – Holly Squires, an Esthetics and Nail Care Technology student at the Dawson Creek Campus of Northern Lights College, is the 2011 recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal.

First awarded in 1979, the British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Medal is presented annually to one student from each of the province’s community colleges and provincial institutes. The student chosen has not only excelled in academic achievement but has contributed in a meaningful way to life at the College or in the community.

Squires graduated from the Esthetics program with a 99.8 per cent average. She also acted as an ambassador for the college and the Esthetics program, volunteering at local trade shows. As well, she and some fellow graduates are considering putting their skills into practice by opening their own business locally.

Squires was presented with her medal by NLC’s registrar Anna Hughes during Convocation ceremonies on May 13.

The award is provided by the Honourable Steven L. Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
