ESTH 110 - Unit One: Career Foundations

Career Foundations provides a thorough overview of the esthetics and nail care industry. Students will examine the history of the industry from ancient through modern times. They will become familiar with industry ethics and standards of practice including professional associations and licensing requirements. The importance of communication and customer service skills are also explored.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the history of the esthetics and nail care industry and the range of employment options
- Define industry standards of practice and professional ethics
- Explain the importance of personal image including nutrition, exercise, stress management and hygiene
- Apply and demonstrate professional communication skills
- Identify and explain the importance of teamwork
- Explain the ergonomics for estheticians
- Identify the importance of excellent customer services skills, describe elements of customer service, and illustrate customer service skills
- Identify professional associations and licensing requirements for estheticians

Learners must demonstrate competencies in their skills to Industry Standards.
