Calendar Description:
Plumbing Apprenticeship Technical Training Level 3 covers the Level 3 Provincial Apprenticeship curriculum. Topics include sewage systems, radiant heating, boiler startup and servicing, and commercial and domestic gas systems. A tour of a construction site may be part of the course, depending on availability. Students successfully completing this term will progress to fourth year apprenticeship status within the industry.

Plumbing - Residential plumbing discussed in the third period of technical training should be relevant to a 3 or 4 bedroom single family dwelling. The house will contain: main bathroom complete with bidet, ensuite bathroom complete with jet tub and shower stall, three piece basement bathroom, bar sink, main floor laundry, kitchen sink with garbage grinder and dishwasher, connection to icemaker, sump pump installation, weeping tile connection, drainage back flow protection. Commercial plumbing applications will also be presented.

Hydronic Radiant Heating - the radiant heating project should be relevant to a three bedroom single family dwelling with areas that require baseboard back-up i.e. front and rear entrance and rear patio doors. A two car garage is attached to the house and requires radiant heating. Commercial applications are introduced.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to work under supervision and demonstrate the skills for the level. Apprentices will be able to recognize tasks where they will require assistance and demonstrate work habits associated with good trade practices.
List and identify correct installation techniques for DWV system above and below ground
Identify and describe correct installation practices of various floor drain applications
Size an island fixture vent installation
Identify and describe correct installation practices to a group of washing machines
Explain and identify various methods of installing rainwater leaders and area storm drainage from paved surfaces and roofs
Correctly interpret plumbing code requirements
Define common terminology
State correct water meter installation requirements on services larger and smaller than 1 inch (25 mm), control valve or valves, by-pass, unions, provisions for drainage system
Locate and correctly install air vents and vacuum breakers
Rough-in DWV with regard to correct interpretation of codes and correct installation techniques

Writing Assignments:
Perform diagnostic maintenance to determine customer service problems and correct where necessary. Set, adjust, and calibrate controls where necessary. Install new equipment where necessary. Leak test controls and repair gas leaks where found. Repair valve let-by where necessary. Wire electrical equipment where necessary (series circuits, parallel circuits). Wire gas appliance controls circuits for gas furnace, gas hot water boilers and steam boilers, unit heaters, space heaters and other domestic appliances.
