Students will learn Global Wind Organization certified tower safety practices including fire safety, working at heights and entry-level first aid.

Course Content:
First Aid:
- Safe first aid practices relevant to geographic location according to ERC and AHA guidelines
- Signs of normal body functions, and symptoms of serious and minor injuries and illness
- Management in an emergency situation, understanding correct order
- Lifesaving First Aid using the Primary Survey A-B-C
- Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), Ordinary First Aid, the Secondary survey, and First Aid equipment.
BST Fire Awareness Module:
- Development and spread of fire
- Causes of fires in wind turbines and the dangers related, signs of fire in a wind turbine environment
- Contingency plans, smoke detection, emergency escape procedures
BST Working at Heights Module:
- Hazards, risks associated with working at heights specific to a wind turbine generator (WTG)
- Current national legislation regarding working at heights
- PPE, European/Global standard markings, e.g. harness, hard hat, lanyards, etc.
- Inspection, servicing, storing and donning relevant PPE, e.g. harness, lanyards, fall arresters and work positioning equipment
- Correct use of relevant PPE, anchor points and correct ladder conduct.
- Correct use of evacuation devices, how to approach a rescue and use of rescue equipment in WTG situations.
Learning Outcomes:
At completion, students will be able to:
- Use basic personal protective equipment (PPE) and perform safe work at heights
- Perform safe and comprehensive basic rescue from heights in a remote wind turbine environment
- Administer safe and effective First Aid in the wind turbine/WTG environment, in accordance with GWO standards
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Determine appropriate actions to prevent, and/or evaluate a fire – assess if the incident is safe
- Efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic hand held firefighting equipment.
