Tuition, Information about tuition expenses on tax returns

What's new

Starting in the 2019 tax year, the T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate) replaces the T2202A (Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate). The most notable change is that all Canadian colleges and universities must collect Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) and file the T2202 with the Canada Revenue Agency. Beginning in November 2019, we are asking all eligible students enrolled in courses in 2019 or later to provide their SIN.

By the end of February each year, NLC must file a T2202 electronically with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). You can access your T2202 no later than the last day of February for the prior tax year. The CRA requires you to provide your SIN to NLC for the purpose of the T2202.

The CRA provides further information about the eligibility of fees and amounts. The Government of Canada provides information about authorized federal use of the SIN.
