Oil & Gas Water Management was developed and is being offered through NLC’s Centre for Applied Energy and Environmental Sustainability (CAEES).

This intensive two-day course provides a practical, in-depth understanding of the oil and gas production lifecycle, with a focus on formation processes, produced water, mineralogy, emulsions, and oilfield microbiology. Designed for field personnel, technologists, engineers, and industry professionals, the course combines classroom instruction with hands-on lab time and live demonstrations to reinforce real-world application.

You’ll explore how formation damage occurs, why it creates significant operational challenges, and how risks can be reduced—particularly when re-using produced water. The course also examines enhanced recovery techniques and the role polymers play in production optimization.

A strong emphasis is placed on water management and compatibility. You will develop the skills to read and interpret water analyses, identify incompatibilities between waters, and understand how pressure, temperature, and pH influence scaling and mineral deposition. Water modeling and prediction techniques will also be introduced to support proactive decision-making.

Key Learning Areas:

  • Formation damage mechanisms and mitigation strategies

  • Produced water reuse and risk management

  • Enhanced recovery techniques and polymer applications

  • Water compatibility, modeling, and analysis

  • Mineral scaling prevention and control

  • Emulsion formation and treatment methods

  • Oilfield microbiology and corrosion impacts

This course equips participants with practical knowledge and applied skills to better manage water-related challenges, protect assets, and optimize production performance.
