Transfer Credits

Applying for a transfer credit:

  1. Make sure you’ve applied for admission at NLC.
We can’t evaluate your transfer credit request until this happens. If you attended a BC post-secondary institution, you may be able to determine your transfer credit by consulting the BC Transfer Guide.
  2. Submit a request for transfer credit.
Please submit one form per institution you want to transfer credit from. Note for institutions outside of BC, a request fee must be paid at the time of submission. Get Transfer Application Form
  3. Submit official transcripts from each institution.
Transcripts need to come directly from the source to NLC, either by mail or electronically, or hand delivered in a sealed envelope that is only opened by the NLC Registrar’s office. Only official transcripts will be considered for final decisions on transfer credit, but NLC may accept unofficial transcripts to assist with pre-evaluation of transfer credit.
  4. Once documents have been received, the process to evaluate your transfer credit(s) can take up to six weeks.

For more information about transfer credits, please get in touch with our admissions office.

Please note: All documents submitted to NLC become the property of NLC unless they are irreplaceable. Applicants who submit irreplaceable documents may request a return of irreplaceable documents by contacting us. Irreplaceable documents will be returned after admission evaluation is complete.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

If you’ve acquired learning through formal and non-formal education, it may be eligible to be used as credit towards an educational program at NLC*.

This learning experience may include:

  • Work experience
  • Self-study
  • Volunteer activity
  • Other life experiences

*Credits acquired through PLAR are granted toward a NLC credential only. We cannot guarantee transferability between the college and any other institution. Not every NLC program allows PLAR, nor can every NLC course be completed through PLAR.
