Fort Nelson student receives Minerva award

Laurelle DettiehDAWSON CREEK – A graduate of the Northern Lights College Oil and Gas Field Operators program in Fort Nelson is the 2010 recipient of the Minerva Foundation for BC Women Award (Aboriginal).

Laurelle Dettieh received the award earlier this year from Gerri MacDonald, the Aboriginal Education Coordinator at NLC’s Fort Nelson Campus. Dettieh was a student in an intake of the Oil and Gas Field Operator program offered in Fort Nelson from September 2009 to February 2010.

The Minerva Education Awards were created to help British Columbia women advance themselves by continuing their education. The award is available to female Aboriginal students studying at any campus in the NLC region and enrolled in studies related to energy, mining or petroleum resources.

The Northern Lights College Foundation is now accepting applications for this year’s Minerva Award (Aboriginal). Two awards, valued at $1,250 each, are available.

Students who wish more information or to apply can also contact the Financial Aid Officer at the Northern Lights College campus at which they are registered. The deadline to apply for The Minerva Educational Award for Women (Aboriginal) is Oct. 31.
