National Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration and Staff BBQ

On , In College News

One of the best ways to connect with one another is to share a meal, and that’s just what Northern Lights College did for National Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

The National Indigenous Peoples Day’ Celebration and Staff BBQ was a chance for all the people of NLC to sit down and learn more about Indigenous culture in the community. The event was MC’d by Cory Lizzotte, and a prayer given by campus Elder Malcolm Supernault. Coline Casey drummed the Strong Women’s Song for the group, and Jannah Kohlman, Executive Director of the Nawican Friendship Centre, shared her story of how she came to do the work she does at the Nawican and for the community.

Jannah also shared that it’s important for everyone to listen and learn to acknowledge the past so that we can move forward into the future.
