Northern Lights College Board of Governors welcomes new members and elects new chairs

Dawson Creek, BC, August 30, 2018 — Four newly appointed members joined the Northern Lights College Board of Governors at its August 22 meeting.

Lorraine Archibald is the CEO of Lake View Credit Union. Lori is a past president of the Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta and former treasurer for the Festival of Trees at the University of Alberta Hospital Foundation. She holds a Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta.

Judy Fox-McGuire is a senior probation officer at Community Corrections in Fort St. John and the vice president for the social, information, and health component at the BC Government Employees Union. She is an alumna of Northern Lights College and has been a sessional instructor in criminology and sociology at NLC. Judy has a Bachelor of Arts in criminology from Simon Fraser University.

Michael Gilbert is a regional development officer for the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality. He is a former executive director for the Fort Nelson First Nation. Michael has worked in K-12 and post-secondary education for over 35 years, including a number of roles at NLC. He is the First Nations reconciliation representative of Hillcrest United Church and a charter member of the Fort Nelson Refugee Committee. Mike holds bachelor’s degrees in arts and education, and a Master of Education from Brock University.

Karen Mason-Bennett is the executive director of the Northern Environmental Action Team and co-owner of Cool Beans Cafe. She is also the chair of the North Peace Cultural Society, vice-chair of the Child Development Centre, and a director at the Recycling Council of British Columbia. She has a bachelor’s degree in comparative development studies and anthropology, and a Master of Environment and Business from the University of Waterloo.

At the meeting, the board elected Tyler Holte as its chair.

Tyler is an associate lawyer for Callison Zeunert Law Corporation. Previously, he was an articled student for Callison Zeunert Law Corporation, a poverty law advocate for South Peace Community Resources Society, and a research assistant for the University of Victoria. Tyler currently serves as a member for the Moberly Lake Community Association. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and a Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria.

The board also elected Andrew Ackerman to the position of vice-chair.

Andy is the president of Myriad Consulting Incorporated. He has worked for the BC Ministry of Environment for 37 years. He is the president of the BC Library Trustees Association, president of the Fort St. John Child Development Centre, and a past president of the Fort St. John Chamber of Commerce. Andy holds a Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Victoria and a Diploma in Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Management from the BC Institute of Technology.
