Are you thinking about applying to medical school in the future? Healthcare Exploration camp provides an introduction on what to expect if you are considering pursuing a career as a doctor. This one-day camp features 6 sessions led by an MD:

  • Getting into Med School Talk – learn about the MD program at the University of Alberta and the prerequisites needed to apply, followed by a Q&A session
  • Taking a Medical History – learn how to take a medical history and work through mock patients
  • Mock MMI – be coached on how to approach medical school interview questions, practice answering prompts and receive personalized feedback
  • MSK Neuro Exam – learn physical assessment techniques including the musculoskeletal (MSK) exam and cranial nerve assessment, then explore how to assess joints and basic neurological function
  • Case-Based Scenario – have the opportunity to diagnose and propose medical management for a mock patient. This case study also has a strong focus on rural medical care, rural values, and rural health outcomes.
  • Suturing – learn how to perform a basic suturing technique on practice models. This hands-on experience offers insight into procedural skills that physicians regularly perform.

This camp is in partnership with the University of Alberta and South Peace Division of Family Practice, an FPSC initiative.
