Looking to get into a trade program? Make sure you’ve registered for your SkilledTradesBC membership. If you haven’t already, apply here.
Some of our programs are also available as part-time course loads so make sure you take a look at your program’s requirements as you plan your time at NLC.
Step 2 | Submit your application
Once you’ve chosen your program, there are two ways to apply to Northern Lights College:
1. Online
If you’re applying online, please go to EducationPlannerBC to start your application. The website will allow you to:
- Take your time preparing your application, even over several days
- Pay your application fees online
- Upload supporting documents as part of your application
2. In-person
You can apply in-person at any of our campuses.
- Be prepared by downloading and printing out the required application form.
- Or you can request one when you arrive on campus. An advisor can help walk you through the steps and answer any questions you may have at the time.
Step 3 | We’ll review your application
Within 3-10 business days, your application will be reviewed by someone from NLC. We’ll get in touch with you about any added requirements such as submitting additional documents.
Step 4 | Submit additional documents
Make sure you submit all the required documents for your application, otherwise you may miss out on getting into your preferred program.
Admission requirements are unique to each program. They ensure you are prepared and have the skills to be successful at NLC.
Most programs will use your high school grades as admission requirements, but we also admit applicants that demonstrate preparedness by:
- Completing an assessment or placement test; or
- Providing transcripts from other colleges, universities, or other post-secondary institutions; or
- Completing upgrading courses with NLC.
Note: Most programs’ admission requirements identify BC secondary school courses, but NLC also recognizes courses completed in other jurisdictions such as Alberta, Ontario, India, and the Philippines. Please get in touch with admissions if you have questions about your requirements.
Step 5 | We’ll contact you
Got an offer?
Congratulations! You’re on your way to studying at Northern Lights College! We look forward to having you join us at one of our five campuses.
Need upgrading?
If you didn’t meet your program’s requirements, don’t worry, we offer assessment testing and upgrading courses. Your admissions officer will help you figure out what you need to accomplish your academic goals and be successful in your program!
If you haven’t heard from us within two weeks of submitting your application, please get in touch at: admissions@nlc.bc.ca.
Step 6 | Accept your offer
This is a very important step.
Don’t forget to accept your offer by paying your deposit. Without a deposit, we cannot guarantee your position in your chosen program.
To accept your offer, follow the instructions on the email you received from NLC.
Step 7 | Post-admission requirements
You’ll need to complete all post-additional requirements before your first day of classes so you’re all set for your program. If they’re not complete prior to the start of classes, your offer of admission might be withdrawn.
These requirements should be part of your offer package or can be found in the Academic Calendar for each program.
Step 8 | Register for your courses
Register for the courses you wish to take over the next year. Some programs will already have your courses chosen for you. Please review your program to ensure you are enrolled in all the right courses.
