Guide Foundations

$9750

Dawson Creek - Northern Lights Farm, ONLINE

April 14-May 21 (Online) June 1 - 27 (Face to Face)

Guide Foundations is the first of 3 programs in NLC’s Wilderness Guide School. Learners will gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to thrive in BC’s guide outfitting industry.

This program will introduce learners to the professional world of guide outfitting in British Columbia. Designed in collaboration with Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia (GOABC), Guide Foundations explores the history and traditions of guiding in BC, the laws and regulations that govern the industry, and the essential technical and interpersonal competencies needed for success.

Course modules include field relationships and cultural communication, vehicle and engine operation, camp equipment and setup, and the use of hunting gear. Learners will gain an understanding of each phase of a guided hunt—from preparation and planning to species-specific hunts and post-harvest procedures. By the end of the course, learners will have the foundational knowledge and applied skills required to work confidently and safely in the backcountry under professional guide outfitters.
