Karen Mason-Bennett sees a bright future for Northern Lights College.
In her new role as the Fort St. John campus administrator, Karen is looking forward to building relationships and connecting with the community on behalf of NLC.
“I think that the college is perfectly poised to be a little bit more visible in the general community,” Karen says. “I think there’s just so much magic and amazing things happening here that people don’t know about and I’m excited to bring a voice to that.”
She’s no stranger to NLC—Karen served on the NLC Board of Governors for four years prior to accepting her new position. However, most folks in Fort St. John likely know Karen from the Northern Environmental Action Team, where she has worked first as an Eco-Advisor, then as Program Coordinator, and finally as the Executive Director.
Karen’s community service is far-reaching and impactful. She is a founding member the Fort St. John Chapter of 100 Women Who Care, a twice-a-year event where 100 women are invited to donate $100 each to a local organization chosen at the event. She has also served on the boards of several community organizations, including the Child Development Centre, the Recycling Council of BC, the North Peace Cultural Society, and the North Peace Ride for the Disabled.
When she’s not out supporting the community, Karen is an avid reader who enjoys walking her dog, learning to crochet, and trying to keep her orchids alive.
