Community Spirit and Partnerships Shine at the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede
For another year, the Northern Lights College (NLC) Foundation hosted its popular 50/50 draw and Mega Lottery at the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede, drawing strong regional participation. Thanks to community support, the Foundation had its best year yet.
This year’s total jackpot reached $174,425 split evenly between the Foundation and the prize winners. Saturday’s 50/50 winner took home a whopping $26,280 while Sunday’s Mega Lottery winner received $22,145.
All of the prizes have been claimed, and the foundation is looking forward to applying these funds to supporting our students.
Kayla Von Bargen, Development Officer for the NLC Foundation, was thrilled with the turnout.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the NLC Foundation at this year’s Dawson Creek Exhibition,” she said. “This was our strongest year yet, with record sales and our biggest jackpots to date. We’re so fortunate to be part of the Greatest Show in the Peace and to have the opportunity to connect with our community throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets, shared our draw, and helped make this year such a success.”
The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the Dawson Creek Exhibition Association for hosting the team. Recognition also goes to local business partners including Mr. Mike’s, Stuie’s Diner, Flavours 8, Post & Row, Sam’s Friends, Rimrock Ridge, Athen’s Bar & Grill, Sola’s, Le’s Family Restaurant, for helping spread the word.
Scrubs and Scholarships wins bronze for local charities
In addition to the fairground activities, the NLC Foundation’s “Scrubs & Scholarships” secured bronze in the Race Against Hunger at the Dawson Creek Co-op. The team was comprised of NLC Foundation Executive Director Lindsey Borek, board members Aaron Powell and Kathleen Connolly, and Board Chair Lisa Ward. The team couldn’t have done it without the support of Ovintiv, Dawson Creek Co-op, and Longhorn Oilfield Services.
The Foundation was able to donate food and $500 each to Networks Ministries, St. Mark’s, and the Pouce Coupe Food Bank to support families and students in the region.
Participating in regional initiatives aligns with NLC’s strategic priority to foster long-term community connections.
“Partnerships like these are a meaningful part of how we support the communities we serve,” said Borek. “Whether we’re raising funds for students through the Exhibition or coming together to support local families through the Race Against Hunger, these initiatives demonstrate what we can accomplish when organizations work together. We are proud to contribute to the Peace Region and deeply grateful to the businesses, organizations and community members who continue to stand behind our students and our communities.”
