Three Northern Lights College (NLC) students recently proved Northern BC trades training competes with the province’s best. Following February regional wins, the top students showed very well at the Provincial Skills BC Trades and Technology Competition, held in Abbotsford on April 15.
In total, they brought home 2 bronze and one gold medal.
- Nathan Rempel (Gold – High School, Electrical Foundations): His regional gold was followed by a another in a stellar performance at Provincials in the Secondary Electrical Wiring category.
- David Wulfert (Bronze – Post-Secondary, Electrical Level 3): After recently completing his level three training, and his placing in the regional competition, David went on to earn a Provincial Bronze Medal in the highly competitive Post-Secondary Electrical Wiring division.
- Prestin Sorken (Bronze – Post-Secondary, Hairstyling): Prestin represented the NLC Hairstyling program with a bronze-medal finish at the regional level and then again at the provincial level, highlighting the artistic and technical skill set fostered at the Dawson Creek campus.
Josh Klassen, Trades Program Chair, noted that these competitions are more than just contests; they are a vital way for students to build the “competitive edge” needed for the workforce. Whether returning with medals or the experience of competing on a provincial stage, these students have proven that NLC continues to be a powerhouse for trades training in British Columbia.
Congratulations to Prestin, David, Nathan, and the entire NLC team for their remarkable achievements!
