Food Safety for Food Handlers is a food safety training course delivered online . It is designed for frontline food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, and deli workers. In this course, you will learn about food safety and worker safety information including foodborne illness, receiving, storing, preparing food and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces and equipment. Students who successfully complete this class will be able to be equipped with essential skills to prevent foodborne illness, focusing on understanding microbiological hazards, identifying high-risk foods, and applying proper time and temperature controls. The learning outcomes ensure that food handlers can practice proper personal hygiene, such as correct handwashing techniques, while also learning how to prevent cross-contamination and cross-contact, particularly regarding allergens. Students also learn the basics of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles, pest control, and legal responsibilities in food service.
This course has been developed to be equivalent in content and meeting the requirements set out in the National Guidelines for Food Safety Training Programs in the Food Retail and Food Service Sectors. It covers all the major content sections required for a food handler’s certificate. Certificate holders have a demonstrated understanding of food safety principles and find it easier to find jobs in the food industry. The ‘Food Safety for Food Handlers’ course has been officially reviewed, and the certificate is recognized in BC / YT / SK / MB / ON / NS / NB / PE / NL as meeting the requirements of the Provincial/Territorial food premises regulations for Level 1 Food Handler training. Online exam is schedule through Knowledgeware.
