Because our campuses will be closed on Saturday, September 30, we encourage all students, faculty, and staff to wear your orange shirts on Friday, September 29. Wearing orange shows our collective commitment to reconciliation, opens meaningful dialogue, and reinforces that Every Child Matters.
Every year on September 30, Orange Shirt Day, held alongside the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honors the Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools, remembering those who never returned and honoring the survivors and their families. The orange shirt symbolizes the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations, inspired by the story of survivor Phyllis Webstad.
