Below is a list of entrance awards available to students:

The deadline for our General Awards (available to all currently registered students) is January 25th of each year.

Those applying for an entrance award must fill out a separate General Entrance Award Application form (link below) for each award they are applying for.

Application Process: Students must submit a separate General Award Application.pdf for each award they apply for. Applications should be handed into the Financial Aid Office at the students' campus of study.

Northern First Nations Health Partnership Committee Award

Deadline: December 15th, 2016

Value: 4 @ $500

 

Criteria:

  • Aboriginal or First Nations student
  • Enrolling in a health related program (e.g. Health Care Assistant, Early Childhood Education and Care, Social Services Worker Diploma). Other disciplines may be considered in the absence of applications from a health-related field.
  • Enrolling in the Fall or Winter semester.
  • Financial Need (please ensure you have filled out the budget sheet provided in the General Application Form)
  • Applicants must submit a letter (approx. 300 words) describing their financial need (this is in addition to the application’s budget sheet), past achievements, and career and educational goals.
  • The applicant’s career and educational goals should reflect an interest in the health and wellbeing of First Nations and Aboriginal Peoples in northern British Columbia.

Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship

Deadline: February 17, 2017 (this is the deadline for submitting applications to the NLC Foundation office)
Award Value: $5,000

Description: Up to 160 scholarships of $5,000 each will be available to students transferring between BC post-secondary institutions in order to complete their degrees.

Criteria:

The Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship Program is open to students who:

have completed their 1st year of full-time studies with a minimum of 30 transferable credits at a BC public post-secondary institution (regardless of whether the particular credits transfer into their specific program) and who must transfer in order to complete their degree

OR

have completed their 2nd year of full-time studies with a minimum of 54 transferable credits at a BC public post-secondary institution (regardless of whether the particular credits transfer into their specific program) and who intend (choose) to transfer in order to complete their degree

AND

have obtained a “B” average (3.00 GPA)  on the best 30 credits, if transferring after 1st year, or on the best 54 credits, if transferring after 2nd year.

In addition, scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students who:

are Canadian citizens, permanent residents (landed immigrants), convention refugees, or protected persons living in Canada; and

are residents of British Columbia, defined as having a primary residence in BC for at least 12 months prior to the date of enrollment at their new institution; and

have clearly demonstrated significant volunteer community and/or school involvement*, supported by two references submitted with the application; and

are beginning full-time studies at a new institution between May 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018. (Full time is defined as 60% of a full course load.)

*Unless extenuating personal circumstances have prevented such involvement.

Jumonji University Scholarship

Deadline: February 26, 2017
Award Value: 3 months study in Japan, transportation and living allowance included

Description: This scholarship is endowed by Jumonji Educational Institution of Tokyo, Japan. The period of study will be from the second week of May to the beginning of August.

Criteria:

  • female 18 - 24 years of age
  • present or former student of the Fort St. John Campus of Northern Lights College, or person who herself, or whose family has assisted a student from the Jumonji Summer Tour

    Selection Criteria will include:
    •    Cultural sensitivity
    •    Knowledge about Canada and willingness to act as a classroom assistant in Japan
    •    Ability to communicate in English
    •    Interest in learning basic Japanese

Tezukayama Gakuin University Scholarship

Deadline: February 26, 2017
Award Value: Tuition at Tezukayama Gakuin University for one school year, a living allowance, and accommodation

Criteria:

  • a student at NLC, a graduate of NLC or a daughter of a Dawson Creek  Host Family
  • the scholarship student is responsible for airfare and spending money while in Japan
  • the  scholarship student may have the opportunity to work teaching English as a means of supplementing their income
  • preference will be given to a candidate who is willing to study the Japanese language and culture, prior to departure

BC Hydro Trades & Skilled Training Award 

Deadline: March 31, June 30, August 31, November 30th
Award Value: Varies (up to $5,000)

Student Eligibility: Any student enrolling in one of the following programs:

  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • Automotive Service Technician Foundation and Apprenticeship
  • Carpentry Foundation Level 1 & 2 and Apprenticeship
  • Commercial Transport Technician Apprenticeship
  • Cook Professional Level 1 & 2
  • Early Childhood Education and Care Diploma (Part-time students are eligible)
  • Electrician Foundation and Apprenticeship
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprenticeship
  • Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation and Level 1 & 2
  • Industrial Instrumentation Mechanic Foundation and Apprenticeship
  • Millwright Foundation and Apprenticeship
  • Plumber Foundation and Apprenticeship
  • Practical Nursing
  • Social Services Worker Diploma
  • Welding Foundation and Apprenticeship

Criteria:

  • Enrolling full-time in an eligible Trades program (see list above) at one of the Northeast BC campuses of Northern Lights College in the September or January/February intake
  • Financial need
  • On a separate piece of paper, applicants must also provide the following information:
    i)   Demonstration of residency in northeast British Columbia, including current place of residence
    ii)  Demonstration of financial need (please fill out budget form on page 3 as well)
    iii) Cover letter including a description of education and work experience, financial need, career and educational goals and any volunteer/community            involvement (150 – 200 words).

REGULAR AWARDS WITH CONTINUOUS DEADLINES

 

International One World Scholarship

Deadline: Continuous
Award Value: Up to $3,000

Student Eligibility: Any NLC student planning to participate in an academic or work-related program outside Canada.

NLC Career and College Preparation Bursary Fund

Deadline: Continuous

Award Value: 100% of program costs and 100% of books (award will be applied to the student's account)

Student Eligibility: Any student enrolling in part-time or full-time studies in NLC's CCP program

Criteria:

  • student must have exhausted all other sources of funding for their program costs (e.g. AUG)
  • a student who has previously received this Bursary Funding may apply for continued support, but must have demonstrated successful completion and/or satisfactory progress in their previous course(s) as outlined in the adult upgrading grant guidelines.
  • student must demonstration financial need

Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) Award

Deadline: Continuous (Applications are reviewed in May and December of each year)

Award Value: 4 @ $1,500

Student Eligibility: Any student enrolled in an eligible program (see list below)

Criteria:

  • enrolled full-time in any of the following programs:
    - Commercial Transport Technician
    - Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
    - Heavy Mechanical Trades
    - Millwright
    - Welding
  • applicants must include in their application a description of their career plan, their interest in working in the service, supply and manufacturing sector of the petroleum industry and any prior knowledge of the petroleum industry
  • successful in their program

CA Education Foundation Award (CAEF)

Deadline: February 28, 2017
Award Value: $1,000

Criteria:

  • student must be in final year of the Business Management Diploma program
  • continuing studies in the CA School of Business or the ACIA program.

2017 BC Aboriginal Student Awards and BC Aboriginal Teacher Education Awards

Deadline: March 31, 2017
Student Award Value: $1000-$2000 (multi-year)

Criteria

  • for students pursuing trades training, apprenticeships, diplomas, certificates or undergraduate degrees
