Introduction to Behaviour Modification provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory, principles, and practical application of behaviour modification. Grounded in behaviourism and applied behaviour analysis (ABA), students examine how learning processes and the principles of classical and operant conditioning, as well as reinforcement and punishment, stimulus control, shaping, chaining, and extinction influence human behaviour across clinical, educational, and community settings. The course explores how ABA is used to support individuals with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, social communication disorders, and behavioural and emotional regulation challenges in order to promote skill acquisition, increase adaptive functioning, and reduce maladaptive behaviours across diverse populations. Ethical considerations, including client dignity, cultural responsiveness, professional boundaries, and the responsible use of reinforcement and aversive procedures, are emphasized throughout the course.
