ENGL111 Poetry and Drama

(3.0 credits)

This course introduces the literary interpretation of poetry and drama. Students will analyze representative examples from various literary time periods and explore poetic structure, literary devices, and the relationship between form and content. The course also introduces drama in performance, dramatic conventions, and the history of theatre. Assignments include close reading exercises, analytical writing exercises, and critical essays.

Prerequisites: Domestic students: "C" in English 12 or equivalent; or 100-level placement on the Writing Assessment. International students: "C" in English 12 or equivalent; or 6.0 IELTS writing band.
