Executive Assistant Diploma

Location(s): Online

The Executive Assistant Diploma is designed for graduates of Administrative Assistant Certificate programs who want to develop their career opportunities and educational qualifications. Diploma graduates will be prepared to seek opportunities as office managers or as assistants to senior executives. Diploma graduates will also have the opportunity to ladder their coursework into business degree programs at Thompson Rivers University. All courses required for NLC’s Executive Assistant Diploma are available online, on a part-time basis. Face-to-face and video-conference delivery is available at designated NLC campuses, on a part-time or full-time basis depending on location.

Career Prospects

Program graduates may seek opportunities as office managers or as assistants to senior executives. Program graduates will also be well-prepared to write the accreditation exams for the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) or the Organizational Management (OM) designation programs.

Length

30 credits (450 hours), minimum.
This is a one year program taken over two semesters with minimum of 15 credits per semester.  Part-time studies will take longer. Students in this program select course loads and course schedules that fit their needs and course availability. Registration is completed semester-by-semester.

Admission Requirements

  • Completion of NLC’s Applied Business Technology (Administrative Assistant) Certificate program or equivalent.

Important Notes

  1. This program is eligible for Canada Student Loans. Visit Student Aid BC to apply for financial assistance online.
  2. Student must provide a financial calculator. Students are required to have a computer (laptop or other mobile device) with minimum computer requirements.
  3. Transfer agreements allow:
    1. Course transfer to other colleges, universities, and institutes in BC, as indicated in the BC Transfer Guide.
    2. Courses transfer to professional associations such as the Certified General Accountants, Certified Management Accountants, Chartered Accountants, Aboriginal Financial Officers Association, Canadian Bankers Institute, and others. Students are responsible for confirming transferability of course credits to any external organization.
    3. Graduates to receive 30 credits towards Thompson Rivers University’s Bachelor of Business Administration or Bachelor of Commerce degrees provided GPA requirements are met.  Students who completed NLC’s Applied Business Technology (Administrative Assistant) Certificate will be granted an additional 15 credits.  Note that students who have completed 10-month Applied Business Technology programs elsewhere must confirm transfer credit with TRU.

Residency Requirement70% of all coursework must be completed at Northern Lights College
Minimum Grade Requirements2.00 program Grade Point Average (GPA); D grade (50%) minimum in all courses

*Please note the following semester break down is based on a student beginning their program in the Fall semester.  Students starting in other semesters should consult with the course catalogue in Borealis and with a Program Advisor when selecting courses.
