Student Eligibility:

  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person entitled to study in Canada.
  • Must be B.C. residents and currently live in B.C.
  • Must be 19 years or older or have graduated high school by the start of the course/program.
  • Must provide consent for NLC to disclose learner information to the Province and third party training providers.
  • Should not be receiving duplicative and/or overlapping funding to cover eligible costs (i.e. grants, loans, scholarships, or other funding that covers the same program costs as the Future Skills Grant)

Students should understand that:

  • The FSG benefits may have tax implications;
  • The FSG is subject to a lifetime maximum of $3,500;
  • If students are receiving any federal or provincial benefit, such as Employment Insurance (EI) or BC Employment Assistance (BCEA), approval must be sought from the appropriate government body before participating in a program;
  • The amount of FSG funding received is subject to review and audit.

Eligible costs for future skills grant programs:

  • Lifetime Maximum of $3,500 inclusive of all eligible costs
    • Tuition
    • Program/Course Materials (textbooks, textbook or required program software, and tools)
  • Not Eligible: Childcare, living allowances, and transportation.

Eligible Northern Lights College programs that are approved for future skills grant funding:

In this course, students will learn how an Airport Manager designs and develops manuals, and safety in airport operations and airport suitability for aircraft operations by applying daily quality control (Daily Rundown).

Upon completion of this course, the student will have learned how to apply Canadian Aviation Regulations, and TP312E 5th standards to airside daily operational processes, daily quality control, design of daily oversight of airport operations processes, airport zoning regulations, and for an airport to conform to regulatory requirements daily and safety in operations.  Student will use their knowledge from Airside Maintainer course, and Airside Application course to accept roles and responsibilities as an Airport Manager at a certified airport in Canada.

This course is intended for anyone currently employed at an airport or those considering a career at an airport.

The Safety Management for Workers course is based on safety management system (SMS) principles, which is a formal framework for managing risk. SMS helps, airlines, airports, the aviation industry, and safety critical industries to manage safety by identify safety concerns, assess the risks they represent, and reduce those risks as needed. This course includes roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in safety, how to establish a safety reporting culture, how to identify hazards to report, and how to report hazards, incidents, accidents or observations.

This course is intended for anyone currently employed within a management or supervisory role at an airport.

The Safety Management for Managers course is based on safety management system (SMS) principles, which is a formal framework for managing risk. SMS helps, airlines, airports, the aviation industry, and safety critical industries to manage safety by identify safety concerns, assess the risks they represent, and reduce those risks as needed. As an Airport Manager, you’ll learn how to establish a safety reporting culture amongst airport employees and learn how to use their reports for safety data analysis. Upon completion of this course, you’ll be confident in reporting and conducting a basic risk analysis to establish baseline action for hazards.

This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of using AutoCAD. You will start at the very beginning — creating symbols, fixtures, and a floor plan, bringing everything together on a deliverable printed sheet. You will also create construction documents, such as floor plans, roof plan, and building elevations. During this online course, you will learn about paper/model space and create deliverable sheet files. This class is hands-on, real-world applicable, and includes optional projects.

Consisting of seven modules, this course will provides you with with essential skills and knowledge regarding environmental monitoring and conservation.
